Willow baskets: designed and made in the traditional manner using a variety of attractive, natural coloured willow and some hedgerow material when available. Uses in and outside the home might include: laundry baskets, shopping baskets, wastepaper baskets, table baskets, and so on. I have been a basketmaker for twelve years, and enjoy designing baskets for a variety of uses in the home, and especially like to use the many lovely naturally coloured willow that is available. Baskets can be made to your own specification.

KibseysKibsey - Traditional Cherry Baskets I have been making these traditional cherry/plum picking baskets for two years for a number of Kent fruit farmers. The baskets have a flat back and spaces for a waist belt. They can be made in two sizes and have a very strong handle to take the weight of the fruit. The weaving material is buff willow and the base is woven so that there are no sharp ends on the inside in order to protect the fruit.

Plant supports: suitable for runner beans and sweet peas, made with wild willow harvested in West Sussex. Sizes vary from 4'-9' tall, and up to 18" diameter.

Butcher BikeUnusual Willow Work: I have made and repaired a variety of unusual items such as: specialist bike baskets for Moulton bikes, and trandesmen's delivery bikes, restoration of the basketwork on antique dog-carts (see left), prams, cribs and moses baskets. Also, historical and re-enactment items, including a winnowing fan and willow shields.

Ask me about any unusual item that you need repaired or replaced.

Rush seating: I have been renewing rush seats for nine year, using freshwater Dutch or English rush to re-seat chairs and stools in the traditional way. The seats are fully stuffed with balls of dry rush to make them comfortable and long lasting (see photo, left, and also on contact page).

Talks on basketmaking: Using slides supplied by the Basketmakers' Association and samples of my own work, I explain and demonstrate the methods and materials used to make baskets.

Repairs to both baskets and chairs: for example, I can replace broken handles on old and loved baskets and renew seats on rush chairs.

Basket weaving workshops: I teach beginners and improvers, either in my workshop or in a nearby studio. Individual, one-to-one tuition or groups of up to 10 students. I also teach adults at several private colleges. Make your own basket to take home (see bottom photo). Gift vouchers available for basketmaking tuition, either for one-to-one or group sessions.

Demonstrations of basketmaking: I am available to demonstrate the craft at country shows and craft events. I have a woodland shelter and/or a gazebo for exhibition.
